The Design-Build Process

Design-build has emerged as a relatively new buzzword in the past decade. Prospective clients always want advice on whom to contact first; the builder or the architect. The question becomes irrelevant when a design-build firm is chosen for a project. 

A design-build firm oversees the creation of your home from the first brainstorming sessions until the moment you turn the key in your new front door. Most important, with design-build you will experience the convenience and consistency of working with one company from start to finish and you will be guided through the process every step of the way.

A designer who is also a builder brings to the design process his practical building experience and his knowledge of materials and structures. A builder who is also a designer will make sure that the house is constructed exactly as you and he envisioned it.

Finally, with a designer-builder in charge of the job, design changes requested by the client go much more smoothly, with a minimum of delay, because there are fewer parties involved. Sometimes even major changes can be accomplished in “mid-stream,” rather than being delayed by back-and-forth communications with a separate architect or designer.
